LATE MODEL PRO CUP:
It’s that time again…time for the drivers of the STPC Late Model Pro Cup series to strap in and fire up the engines for another twelve weeks of bumper-to-bumper, door-to-door short track Late Model action. And 2012 Season 2′s first round was at Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, Georgia. Both divisions had an excellent turnout, with fifteen cars taking the green flag in the Fender Sheetz/Impact Graphics Premier All-Star Series, and fourteen cars starting the Limited Late Model Touring Division Presented by HollyRidge Computer and Web Services.

In Premier, Shawn Stitt took the first pole of the season, with Season 1 champion Jeremy Davis on his outside. Davis spun early and spent 40 laps in the pits fixing serious damage to the #09 car. Stitt led from the start until an accident put him into the Turn Four wall on lap 10 and ended his chance at a win. Gareth Gonder took his #94 Busch Light car to the front after that, but he was passed by Tony Dugan in the #98 and Dugan proved to be the class of the field, leading 121 laps en route to a 1.122-second win over Gonder, with John-Michael Shenette in the #82 “Dirty Sheep” Monte Carlo SS nine seconds back in third. The race was very clean for such a short track, with a 110-lap green flag run to end it.

2012 SEASON 2 SCHEDULES:
Both STPC Late Model Pro Cup series will follow the iRacing official schedules for the Late Model except if league management decides to make a change (for holidays, etc.). Pro Cup races are on Sunday nights. Race times are the same each week except in unusual circumstances–8:00 pm EDT practice starts and 9:15 pm EDT qualifying for the Late Models. In addition, STPC is going “outside the box” and starting an every-two-weeks Late Model road course series on Wednesday nights. Practice for the Road Racing Series will open at 6:00 pm EDT, with qualifying at 7:20 and races starting around 7:45. If you’ve never tried turning right in a Late Model, give it a go…the LM is actually a very good road course car!

LATE MODELS:
Sunday night was a special night for the drivers of the Short Track Pro Cup. In between most seasons, STPC puts on a “Big Show” special event, and the break between 2012 Seasons 1 and 2 is no exception. So on Sunday night April 29, 37 drivers gathered at New Smyrna Speedway for the running of the Heat From Down East Thunder Spectacular, presented by Oyster Bed Speedway, Ford Electric, and STPC, broadcast on the Web Racing Network!

The Thunder Spectacular was open to drivers who had made at least one start in any STPC division during 2011 or 2012, or new drivers who commited to run during Season 2. The field had a mixture of drivers old and new, from all STPC divisions, and everyone was excited to get the Thunder rolling.

Things kicked off with a two-lap qualifying run to set the field for the two 25-lap heat races; those in turn would set the inside and outside lines for the 150-lap main. In qualifying, Shawn Stitt set the pace with a lap of 18.029 seconds. Jeremy Davis followed closely behind with 18.036 seconds, and Jeff Ford was in third with a time of 18.114.

QUALIFYING TOP 10:
1 Shawn Stitt 18.024
2 Jeremy Davis 18.036
3 Jeff Ford 18.114
4 Kevin J. Myers 18.126
5 Chad Detillier 18.173
6 Ian Blanchard 18.177
7 Jeff Conover 18.183
8 Kevin Buchholz 18.202
9 Chris Forster 18.224
10 Gareth Gonder 18.283

The field then split odd and even and ran two 25-lap daytime heat races. In Heat 1, Chad Detillier muscled his #42 car to the front from a third-place start, beating Shawn Stitt by 0.452 seconds; in Heat 2, Jeremy Davis won from the pole by a scant 0.118 seconds over Kevin J. Myers.

HEAT 1 TOP 10:
1 Chad Detillier
2 Shawn Stitt -0.452
3 Chad Dalton -0.683
4 John-Michael Shenette -1.404
5 Jacob Klein -1.902
6 Jeff Ford -2.561
7 Seymour Charles -3.245
8 Eddie George -3.804
9 John Bage -4.446
10 Eric Jones -4.998

HEAT 2 TOP 10:
1 Jeremy Davis
2 Kevin J. Myers -0.118
3 Tony Dugan -0.773
4 Gareth Gonder -1.254
5 Barry Brooks -1.850
6 Adam McCosh -2.266
7 Kevin Buchholz -2.787
8 Erik Myers -3.538
9 Ian Blanchard -4.196
10 Gary Wertman -5.113

After the heats were completed, it was time for the Big Show…150 laps under the lights! Track conditions changed drastically between daytime and night so drivers had a few minutes to fine-tune their setups for the long race, and then 37 cars filled the track with Chad Detillier on point and Jeremy Davis on the outside of the front row.

The race itself was action-packed, and unfortunately, caution-filled as there wasn’t a lot of room with all those cars on the .480-mile New Smyrna Speedway. In the end there were 16 cautions for 81 laps, and not one car escaped without at least a few dents, bangs, and donuts. Early on, Chad Detillier held the lead from the pole before giving it up to Shawn Stitt, who led 52 laps. Unfortunately, Stitt and Jeff Ford were involved in a wreck about midway through that ruined both their chances for a win and handed the lead spot over to STPC Premier veteran Tony Dugan.

Dugan dominated the last third of the race despite having to work his way back up from a spin, and his car being battered from a couple of wrecks. In the end, Tony won the Thunder Spectacular by .682 seconds over Adam McCosh, with Joshua Friedrichs in third, STPC Modified driver Mike Iannarelli in fourth, and STPC Developmental runner-up Doug Cormier coming home a strong fifth.

For 2012 Season 2, STPC has reorganized the Late Model Pro Cup into two divisions–the STPC Premier All-Stars Series Presented by Fender Sheetz and Impact Graphics, and the STPC Limited Late Model Touring Series Presented by HollyRidge Computers and Web Services. In addition, we now feature an every-other-week Late Model road course series, the STPC Late Model Road Racing Series Presented by Hides Pride Leather and Sheepskin Products. The Road Racing Series will run on Wednesday nights starting in Week 2, next week.

STPC will kick off the 2012 Season 2 Pro Cup campaign at Lanier National Speedway in Braselton, Georgia. This classic three-eighths-mile short track has been the first track on the Late Model iRacing schedule for three seasons now, and it usually gets things started with a bang…and a crunch…and the sound of hammers on sheetmetal in the pits. The track may be wide, but the walls still come up in a hurry, and the side-by-side action leaves little room for error.

To sign up for any of our series, visit http://www.stprocup.com and register for the STPC forums. Then go to the section for the division you’re interested in (Premier, Limited, or Road Racing) and sign up!

Also a reminder: STPC does charge a fee of $3 per season. That $3 gets you access to all STPC series and helps pay for all the hosted sessions, special events, certificates and trophies, and the STPC Teamspeak server.

The drivers of the Short Track Pro Cup Late Models completed 2012 Season 1 with a classic short-track 150-lap feature at Jack Arute’s Stafford Motor Speedway on Sunday night. All three divisions–Premier, Sportsman, and Developmental–combined into one field for the final race of what has been an exciting season.

In Premier, Jeremy Davis started in a familiar position–the pole–with Shawn Stitt on his outside. But Davis, though running away with the championship in Premier, wouldn’t complete his season with a race win. That went to the Dirty Sheep himself, John-Michael Shenette, who drove the #82 Dynasty Motorsports Monte Carlo to the lead late and hung on to squeeze out an 0.251-second win over Shawn Stitt, with Adam McCosh making a strong return to STPC by scoring third.

In Sportsman, Chris Forster and John Bage went off 1-2 and both led a good number of laps in the division as the race went on. But in the end, Eddie George scored his fourth win of the season by 1.6 seconds over Bage in second, and Kato Motorsports teammate Chuck Carter in third.
Full race results for Sportsman: http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_race.php?schedule_id=12958

The Developmental Division took the green flag with Brandon Simmons qualifying first in division, with Robert O’Neal second. After 150 laps, O’Neal took his first STPC win by 6.615 seconds over Doug Cormier in second, with Gary Wertman in third.
Full race results for Developmental: http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_race.php?schedule_id=12946

SEASON STANDINGS:
The final standings in Premier aren’t surprising…Jeremy Davis wins the Fender Sheetz Premier Division 2012 Season 1 title in dominating fashion, leading Jeff Conover by 49 points. On the strength of his first win of the season, John-Michael Shenette climbed into third place, with Jacob Klein fourth and Craig Pearson fifth. “Dominating” is the right word to use in describing Davis’ season, with 7 wins in 10 counted races, never finishing lower than fifth.

1 Jeremy Davis 471
2 Jeff Conover 422 -49
3 John-Michael Shenette 410 -61
4 Jacob Klein 402 -69
5 Craig Pearson 384 -87

The HollyRidge Computer and Web Services Sportsman Division point race was as close as the Premier division race was a runaway. When the tire smoke cleared from the last race at Stafford, it was a 1-2-3 performance for Kato Motorsports in the season standings. Chris Forster won the division championship by a single point over his teammate Eddie George, 450 to 449. Chuck Carter took third by seven points over 2011 Season 2 and 3 champion John Bage in fourth, and Kevin Buchholz rode five top-5 finishes to a solid season fifth-place showing.

1 Chris Forster 450
2 Eddie George 449 -1
3 Chuck Carter 425 -25
4 John Bage 418 -32
6 Scott Adams 370 -80
10 Larry Hale 194 -256
Full season standings available at http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_standings.php?season_id=1351

The points battle in STPC’s Developmental Division narrowed over the last few races, and after Stafford, Brandon Simmons came from behind to win his first STPC season title by just three points over veteran Doug Cormier. Gary Wertman squeaked out third over Taylor Dorner, with Bobby Tomer in fifth.

1 Brandon Simmons 443

MODIFIEDS:
The RH2Way.com Radios SK Modified Series wrapped up their season on the fast high banks of Thompson International Speedway. Mike Iannarelli won the 75-lap main feature by 3.855 seconds over Jacob Klein, with John Bage about another second back in third.
It’s the Heat from Down East 150 Thunder Spectacular, presented by Oyster Bed Speedway of Prince Edward Island, Canada; Ford Electric; Hides Pride Leather and Sheepskin Products; and the Short Track Pro Cup!

LATE MODELS:
The drivers of the Short Track Pro Cup Late Models headed to Martinsville Speedway for Week 10 of the 12-week Pro Cup season, and this week all three divisions–Premier, Sportsman, and Developmental–combined and raced together in a 125-lap feature race. 23 cars started what turned out to be a competitive and exciting contest.

In Premier, Shawn Stitt started on the overall pole with Jeremy Davis on his outside. A couple of accidents eventually knocked Stitt well back into the field and gave Jacob Klein the chance to charge from sixteenth overall starting position to lead at the last restart with just a few laps to go. Klein and Davis took the last green together and raced side-by-side through the last lap, but in the final turn, Klein clipped the curbing on the inside of Turn Four and lost just enough speed to give Davis, on the outside, his seventh victory of the season by 0.158 seconds. John-Michael Shenette was in third both in-class and overall, 0.435 seconds behind.
Full race results for Premier: http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_race.php?schedule_id=12968

In Sportsman, John Bage started at the front of the class and had high hopes for a strong run to provide some cushion to his points lead and fend off the fast-charging Kato Motorsports lineup of Chris Forster, Eddie George, and Chuck Carter. Unfortunately, Bage was caught up in a late-race incident that dropped him out of contention, leaving Eddie George to take the class win, with Trevor Cameron scoring a season-high second-place finish and Chris Forster two laps behind in third. This is Eddie’s third win of the season, and Kato Motorsports’ fourth straight Sportsman win (and seventh of the season).
Full race results for Sportsman: http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_race.php?schedule_id=12956

The Developmental Division race kicked off with Brandon Simmons first in class, but incidents marred his race and allowed Douglas Cormier to move up and score his fourth win of the season by two laps over Taylor Dorner in second, and four laps over Bobby Tomer in third.
Full race results for Developmental: http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_race.php?schedule_id=12944

SEASON STANDINGS:
There are no changes in the top five of the Fender Sheetz Premier Division. Jeremy Davis has widened his lead to 35 points over Jeff Conover in second; Jacob Klein used his strong finish at Martinsville to close a lot of ground on Conover but remains in third place. Craig Pearson is fourth, and John-Michael Shenette is fifth.

1 Jeremy Davis 450
2 Jeff Conover 415 -35
3 Jacob Klein 401 -49
4 Craig Pearson 370 -80
Full season standings available at http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_standings.php?season_id=1353

With drop weeks now figured in, the HollyRidge Computer and Web Services Sportsman Division standings are quite shuffled from last week. Kato Motorsports now sits 1-2-3 in the standings, with Chris Forster four points ahead of Eddie George in second and 22 points ahead of Chuck Carter in third. John Bage runs a close fourth, and Kevin Buchholz jumped three spots in the standings this week to take fifth.

1 Chris Forster 360
2 Eddie George 356 -4
3 Chuck Carter 338 -22
4 John Bage 335 -25
LATE MODELS:
This week, STPC’s Late Model Pro Cup makes a nighttime visit to Tennessee’s Thunder Valley and the World’s Fastest Half-Mile at Bristol Motor Speedway. Love or hate the progressive banking, it definitely leads to more side-by-side racing and high-speed door-to-door action.

Last season in Week 8, iRacing Today Motorsports driver Chad Detillier started on the pole and led 86 laps en route to a victory over John-Michael Shenette and Ronnie Binkley.
LATE MODELS:
The Short Track Pro Cup kicked off the month of April on Sunday night by heading to USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Florida for the ninth round of the STPC Late Model Pro Cup season. And there was no April Fool joking going on around here…the racing was, as usual, close and serious.

The Premier and Developmental Divisions combined for an expanded 125-lap feature. The Premier Division started ten cars with STPC newcomer Shawn Stitt on the pole and season points leader Jeremy Davis in second. Davis has been dominating Premier all season but his luck didn’t hold out tonight; Stitt won a convincing victory in only his second Premier start, by 2.828 seconds over John-Michael Shenette, who tied his best finish of the season with second place. Jeff Ford came from fourth starting spot to finish in third. As for Developmental, Doug Cormier continued his strong run this season; he started at the front of the division and went on to win by one lap over Taylor Dorner in second and Jordan Anderson in third.
Full race results for Premier: http://www.danlisa.com/scoring/season_race.php?schedule_id=12967

The Sportsman Division race held few surprises as Chris Forster started on the pole and led 116 of 125 laps en route to winning his second straight race and third of the season. He led what turned out to be a 1-2-3 finish for Kato Motorsports; his Kato teammate Eddie George moved up from sixth on the grid to take second, and new Kato driver Chuck Carter started second and finished third.

SEASON STANDINGS:
Jeremy Davis’ ninth-place finish at USA shrunk his lead in the Fender Sheetz Premier Division, but only slightly. He still has a solid 23-point lead over Jeff Conover and a 50-point lead over Jacob Klein with three races to go. Craig Pearson and John-Michael Shenette round out the top five.

The HollyRidge Computer and Web Services Sportsman Division standings still have John Bage on top, but his lead is slowly shrinking as Chris Forster cut it from seventeen points last week to just nine this week.
Doug Cormier’s win at USA has moved him to the top of the STPC Developmental Division standings; he now has a two-point lead over Brandon Simmons.
THIS WEEK:
LATE MODELS:
This week, STPC’s Late Model Pro Cup grabs a hot dog and heads to Martinsville Speedway for round 10 of the season. We get to see the big boys of NASCAR run there twice a season, but even in a 400-horsepower Late Model, the racing is no less tight and no less physical than when the Sprint Cup cars beat and bang. It’s a place where the most-used tool in the toolbox isn’t the wedge wrench, it’s the big hammer to bang out the dents after 125 laps!

Last season, Premier ran Martinsville in the last week of their season; Jeremy Davis qualified on the pole and won a hard-fought victory over NASCAR Camping World Truck Series driver Cale Gale. In Sportsman, Jeff Ford pushed from sixth starting position to win over Chris Forster and Kevin Buchholz.

On Sunday night March 25, the Short Track Pro Cup brought the Late Model Pro Cup to the storied Thompson International Speedway in Thompson, Connecticut, for a pair of 125-lap races on the famous high banks.

STPC’s top and bottom divisions raced together as always, with the combined Premier/Developmental race stretched to 125 laps from the season-usual 100. In Premier, things continued as they have for much of the season; Jeremy Davis won the pole and led all but one lap en route to his sixth win in eight races, but he still had to work for it, squeaking the win out over STPC Premier Division newcomer Shawn Stitt in second by 0.644 seconds. Jeff Conover followed close behind in third. As for the Developmental Division, Tom Cascio ran hard to get on the pole with veteran driver Gary Wertman starting outside of him. Wertman wound up dominating the eight-car Developmental field, winning by five laps over Brandon Simmions in second, with Cascio another three laps behind in third.

The Sportsman Division race featured a couple of cautions early, then a long green flag run that really spaced out the field. Kato Motorsports’ Chris Forster put his #58 on the pole with John Martin to his outside, and Forster never looked back. He led 123 of 125 laps but only won by 0.837 seconds over his Kato teammate Eddie George in second, and another half-lap back to John Bage in third.

THIS WEEK:
LATE MODELS:
This week, STPC’s Late Model Pro Cup continues its run on big banked tracks by heading down to sunny Lakeland, Florida and USA International Speedway. The three-quarter mile oval is, like Thompson this past week, largely a one-groove racetrack where qualifying is very important and mistakes in hitting your marks are punished.

Last season, Premier did not run USA. In Sportsman, Jeff Ford dominated from the pole and led 144 of 150 laps en route to a 1.4-second win over Eddie George.

TRACK FACTS:

MODIFIEDS:
The RH2Way.com Radios SK Modified Series will head from one of the fastest tracks in the series to probably the slowest…the three-eighths-mile, nearly-flat, and nearly-circular Oxford Plains Speedway in Maine. Oxford is a love-it-or-hate-it track, but it’s a fun run in the Modifieds between the high levels of grip and the old tire model.

Last season in Week 6, Chris Forster pulled out a hard-fought victory by 0.418 seconds over John Bage.

TRACK FACTS:
Track: Oxford Plains Speedway, Oxford, ME
Opened: 1950, reconfigured 1961
